Admissions Policies & Student Administration
Admissions Policies
01. Student Housing
The Academy provides quality housing facilities and services to ensure a healthy, secure and safe living environment that enables residents to fulfil their academic studies. IAB has a residence floor for men and a separate one for women. The males and females have separate sleeping, kitchen, shower and toilet facilities.
The residence accommodation is located in the grounds of IAB in the heart of the local Muslim community. The Office of Student Housing strives to foster a positive atmosphere in our residences that helps students grow academically, emotionally, and socially. Priority is given to international students. To secure a place in the residences, students have to successfully pass any entrance exams and then apply for a place in the dormitories by contacting the dormitory supervisor via WhatsApp. In general places will be offered on a first-come first-served basis. The fees for stay in the dormitories are £50 per week. This covers the cost of electric, gas and water.
The sleeping quarters consist of rooms in which there are between 2 to 4 single beds. Each room offers storage facilities for clothes and personal belongings. There are also private study rooms which are accessible at fixed times of the day and night.
Residents will also be given limited access to Wi-Fi for accessing the internet free of charge.
The above fee does not cover the cost of food and drink. However, residents will have access to a kitchen facility which contains a sink, a fridge-freezer, a microwave and basic cutlery.
There are shower and toilet facilities available within the residences. However, students need to provide their own shampoos and body washes.
There is a laundry room containing a washing machine and a dryer that is available to use free of charge. There is also access to an iron and ironing board, but care needs to be taken while using this so as to not damage any property.
Note: Even though the building has restricted access, any property is left by the owners at their own risk. Therefore, each individual is responsible for ensuring the safety of their belongings. If any property is damaged within the residences due to negligence or carelessness, then an extra charge may be due. For further details on the residences, please refer to the IAB dormitory policy.
IAB residents can contact the dormitory supervisor 9am to 9pm (and outside of these hours only in an emergency).
02. Academy Sports
The academy offers access to a wide range of sports and recreational activities both off and on campus. In the evenings there is access to a local indoor artificial grass football pitch and sports hall. The historic people’s park and Calderdale College are located around 100 yards from the IAB.
Men’s weekly football:
Gym: There is access to a gym and weights room in the basement of R-Building. Access to this gym for women only will be on Sunday mornings between 9am and 12pm. At other times it is open to men. 04. Student Fees
All (full-time) students should pay a registration fee of £50 once they have been accepted onto the course and have completed the online registration form. Thereafter tuition fees are £50 per week for full-time students (paid at the start of each week via bank transfer or they can be paid on a monthly/annual basis). All part-time students will have to pay a £30 registration fee and their weekly fees will depend on which subjects they select.
Accommodation: A place in the IAB dormitory is available on a first come first served basis at a cost of £40 per week if sharing or £60/week if not sharing. This is inclusive of all gas, water and electric. Note you have to pay for the accommodation throughout the academic year except for one week during the ^eedul-fitr holiday and one week during the ^eedul-ad–haa holiday.

However, if you do not plan to open a British account (which in general is not needed), then you could consider sending your money through an online service such as TransferWise by visiting: https://transferwise.com/
Students who demonstrate financial need may apply for deferred payment arrangements for tuition fees only. Note that application for deferral needs to be made to the principal by writing to: principal@islamicacademy.org.uk
05. Refunding
If a student withdraws from the programme after registering, then they will not receive a refund for their registration fee. However, they will only be expected to pay for the weeks of the programme that they attended and started.
Please note that if a student misses any lessons, days or weeks due to them being absent outside of the holiday period, then the tuition fees and dormitory fees are still due.
There are no tuition or dormitory fees for two weeks: one week in April and one week around the end of Ramadaan. Students who choose to do so, will be allowed to stay in the dormitories for free during these two weeks.
06. Attendance & Absence
Students should not miss any lessons except for reasons such as severe illness. Long-term absence might lead to the offer of attending the course being withdrawn. If you are absent for three or more consecutive days, then you should send a written message to the principal via WhatsApp informing them of your reason and when you expect to return.

20. Student Conduct
The Islamic Academy of Britain expects that all faculty, staff, and students embrace and exemplify the values of IAB as defined in our policies.
The academy expects students to adhere to norms of academic integrity that comply with those of accepted scholarly practice and professional ethics. Students should speak and act with due regard for the rights, dignity and freedom of others, whether within the academic context of the classroom or within the context of social and recreational events. IAB encourages the exchange of ideas and opinions, but it does not tolerate any form of unlawful discrimination or harassment, breach of academic integrity, or infringement of ethical standards of conduct.

Jurisdiction
The purpose of this code is to provide students with a clear statement of the standards of behaviour expected in an educational environment, so that they make responsible choices regarding their participation in the academic community and understand the consequences of their infringement of these standards. Violations may be of an academic or non-academic nature.
Jurisdiction of academic violations lies initially under the authority of the instructor of the course in which the violation occurred. If necessary, the case will subsequently be reviewed by the management committee of the academy. The principal of the academy is responsible for implementing the sanctions recommended by the management committee.
Misconduct that is clearly non-academic falls under the jurisdiction of the dormitory supervisor and/or the principal.
Formal Complaints
The Academy has designed distinct processes to provide prompt, reliable, and impartial resolution of allegations of a) discrimination; and b) sexual and other discriminatory harassment. Members of the IAB community who believe that they have been unlawfully discriminated against or harassed, may file a complaint in compliance with our Complaints Policy (a copy of which is available online on our website).

- List of Primary Disciplinary Actions
- Required Withdrawal from Campus
- Secondary Disciplinary Actions

- Academic Misconduct
In principle, enforcement of disciplinary actions for academic violations is carried out by those immediately responsible. It is the responsibility of the faculty to uphold academy policies. Thus, the immediate responsibility for dealing with instances of cheating, plagiarism, and other academic violations rests with the faculty member. If a faculty member has good reason to believe that a student has violated academic standards, it is his or her responsibility to discipline the student expeditiously. When the instructor has taken the initial disciplinary action, he or she should send a letter (see Appendix I) to the principal informing them of the incident and the initial action they have taken. A copy of the letter will be placed in the student’s file.
- Non-Academic Misconduct
- General
Violations of a non-academic nature are the responsibility of the Principal. Students should know that UK laws apply on campus, and those who violate them may be subject to criminal prosecution.
- Library-Related
As detailed in the “Academy Policy on Appropriate Conduct in Libraries,” the immediate responsibility for dealing with violations of library rules rests with the librarian or library staff.
- List of Primary Disciplinary Actions
All disciplinary actions listed below will be recorded in the student’s permanent record held by the admin Office. Only suspension and expulsion will become part of the student’s official transcript or record. Records of the Academy Disciplinary Committee decisions, including charges and sanctions, will be maintained as part of the confidential records in the office, for a period of up to four years after the student graduates or ceases to be a student.
Range of Actions

Examples: Littering and smoking in prohibited areas.
Reprimand
This will be in writing. It is a statement that the student has violated an academy regulation. It is intended to communicate strong disapproval.
Examples: Violence or threats of violence.
Principal’s Formal Warning
This will be in writing. If there is a recurrence of any violation of academy regulations after this formal warning then the student might be suspended
Examples: Academic dishonesty, disruption, obstruction, in-class disruption, mental or physical harm, discrimination, and harassment.
Suspension
This will be in writing and will form part of the student’s permanent record (and will appear on the student’s transcript). A student will be suspended for a fixed period of time during which the student may not participate in any academic or other activities at the Academy. At the end of the suspension period, the student may be readmitted to the Academy, only upon the recommendation of the Academy Disciplinary Committee.
Examples: Cheating, theft, and destruction of property.
Expulsion
This will be in writing and will form part of the student’s permanent record (and will appear on the student’s transcript). Expulsion denies the student the right to participate in any academic or other activities of the Academy for an indefinite time. Only under the most unusual circumstances, and upon the recommendation of the Academy Disciplinary Committee, will an expelled student be readmitted to the Academy.
Examples: Serious repeat offending, possession of dangerous weapons or materials, and endangering public safety.
Cases whereby suspension or expulsion is considered this should be referred to the Academy Disciplinary Committee.
N.B. Any person who maliciously lies to cover up an act sanctioned by the Code of Conduct will be considered to be an accessory and may be subject to disciplinary action.
- Required Withdrawal from Campus Pending Hearing
In extraordinary circumstances, when the student’s continued presence is deemed a danger to the academy community, the student will be required to withdraw from the campus, pending a meeting of the Academy Disciplinary Committee. This action shall normally require the approval of principal.
Notifying of violations: Any person subject to, or who witnesses, a violation of the Student Code of Conduct should forward a written complaint to a teacher or any other member of staff. Violations that may require suspension or expulsion will be referred to the Academy Disciplinary Committee.
SECTION 3 – FORMAL HEARING BY ACADEMY DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE
The Academy Disciplinary Committee will consist of the Principal, the Head of Islamic and Arabic Studies and the Head of Admin and Finance. They will deal with alleged violations in a manner that ensures that those charged with a violation understand the charge and the evidence against them and are afforded a reasonable right of rebuttal.
The Academy Disciplinary Committee shall inform the student of the charge in writing. Evidence shall be presented in the presence of the student who shall have a reasonable right of rebuttal including the right to cross-examine witnesses. In determining penalties, the committee may take into consideration the student’s cumulative discipline record.
SECTION 4 – APPEAL PROCEDURE
Any student who is charged with a disciplinary offense has the right to a full and fair hearing for any disciplinary charges brought against him or her under academy regulations.
If any of the following apply, a student may appeal to the Chair of governors:
- Procedural error.
- New evidence.
- Unsupported conclusion.
- Disproportionate sanctions.
The outcome of this appeal may result in higher, lower, identical, or no sanctions at all being imposed. The governing body’s decision shall be final.
SECTION 5 – GRIEVANCE POLICY AND PROCEDURES
Students may consider informal or formal procedures to seek redress for what they believe to be unfair, improper, or discriminatory decisions, actions, or treatment contravening the established policies and procedures of the Academy. These grievance procedures neither supersede, nor take precedence over established academy procedures or due process for any and all matters related to academic misconduct, disciplinary appeals, grade appeals, financial aid, or other well-defined areas of faculty or staff responsibility.
