Year Two – Second Term
During your time at IAB, you will need to study full time.
Full-time students typically study six modules per term, which equates to 120 UK credits. Most one-term modules are worth 20 UK credits.

Qiraa‘ah (Reading) 105
This class introduces new topics and serves to solidify material from Qiraa’ah (Reading) 104. Students should already be proficient in reading full sentences, and writing full sentences.
This course is based on books that:

Are designed for guided reading but can be used flexibly for whole class and independent work.

Nurture confidence and motivation.

Contain a wide range of stories with common text characteristics to teach key reading skills.

Contain suitably challenging texts to ensure that all learners progress.

Kitaabah (Writing) 205
This class continues the progression from Kitaabah (Writting) 204. Upon successful completion of this class, students should be able to:

Identify the Arabic letters individually and in each state of connection

Articulate each letter correctly from its exit

Recognize, read, and write the Arabic diacritical vowel marks (harakat) correctly
-
Read Arabic words with tanwin and ‘alif lam
-
Identify the two types of lam (shamsiyyah/qamariyyah) and pronounce each correctly

Script the Arabic letters correctly

Take dictation by applying critical auditory and recognition skills for writing words

Develop, memorize, and apply a knowledge base of select vocabulary words and verbs

Ta^biir (Conversation) 305
This class is an introduction to conversation (ta^bir), and with grammar rules from the classic text, Al-Ajurrumiyyah, is designed to teach students with proficient Arabic reading levels, the basics of Arabic speaking. By the end of this course, students should be able to:

Converse with others at a basic level

Incorporate a substantial amount of vocabulary in simple sentences

Differentiate between feminine and masculine words

Strongly understand the following concepts:
- As–sifah and al-mawsuf
- ‘Asma’ul-’isharah
- ‘Asma’ul-mawsulah

Understand how to form questions and answer them appropriately
Prerequisite: Qira’ah (Reading) 103 or equivalent via placement assessment. [This class may also be taken concurrently with any Sarf (Morphology) class.]

NaHwu (Grammar) 505
Learning the science of Arabic grammar is a religious, communal obligation because it opens the door to understanding the Qur’an and the hadith.
The student of knowledge must be proficient in Arabic grammar in order to facilitate the study of the Islamic areas of knowledge on which they are based. Al-Ajurrumiyyah, named for its author, is a text in the science of Arabic grammar which is very concise, yet rich and encompassing.
The Scholars embraced and placed great importance upon this particular text which illuminates the path for a student of grammar and opens the door for him to understand the most important principles of grammar, acting as the basis for his future linguistic pursuits.
The one who masters the principles of Al-Ajurrumiyyah has a solid foundation for attaining each more detailed subject of Arabic knowledge. Topics covered include:
