Summer – Preparatory class

This summer session is designed to get students ready for their first year at a IAB  and consists of taking a number of courses that will prove to be useful once your traditional education begins.

Ta^beer (Conversation) 300

This class is an introduction to conversation (ta^beer),  is designed to teach students with proficient Arabic reading levels, the basics of Arabic speaking.  By the end of this course, students should be able to: 

  1. Converse with others at a basic level 

  2. Incorporate a substantial amount of vocabulary in simple sentences 

  3. Differentiate between feminine and masculine words 

  4. Understand how to form basic questions and answer them appropriately

Prerequisite: Basic reading and writting

Monday to Friday at 11.00 a.m –12:00 p.m. UTC +1
Saturday at 09.30 a.m –11:30 a.m. UTC +1

Sarf (Morphology) 400

This class will focus on correct verb/pronoun conjugation and is designed for students who have learned the Arabic letters proficiently and are able to read basic words. By the end of the class, students should be able to:
  1. Identify the 14 Arabic pronouns and use them correctly
  2. Conjugate verbs in the past tense (al-madi) for each of the 14 Arabic pronouns
  3. Conjugate verbs in the present/future tense (al-mudari^) for each of the 14 Arabic pronouns
  4. Conjugate verbs in the imperative tense (al-’amr), for the applicable Arabic pronouns

  5. Using the Arabic pronouns in the combined (attached) and detached form

Prerequisite: Basic reading and writting

NaHwu (Grammar) 500

This class is an introduction to grammar (nahwu),  is designed to teach students with basic Arabic reading level, the basics of Arabic grammar.  By the end of this course, students should be able to: 

  1. Signs of the noun (ism), verb (fi^l), and particle (harf) 

  2. Inflection – grammatical changes to the endings of words 

  3. The basics of raf^, nasb, jarr and jazm 

Prerequisite: Basic reading and writting
